Calvary Community Church was born on June 10, 1973 when five people met in the living room of a modest home in Lincoln, Nebraska.  In the early days, we claimed this verse:

“Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?” (Jeremiah 32:27)

Over and over again, God has proven Himself to our Calvary family. Like the time Pastor Carl and Gayle asked God to give us the land at 1st & Superior Streets. The cost of the land seemed to make the request impossible, but the earnest young pastor and his wife prayed, and waited on God’s answer. And answer He did! Calvary now sits on 36 beautiful acres and is blessed with a worship center, secure children’s area, cafe, gymnasium and enough classrooms for all the families that pour through our doors throughout the week. From our small beginning, God has worked miracles in our midst. We have witnessed the fact that God still honors faith today. Just two years ago, we moved into our expanded facility and are now debt-free!

In all that we do, we work to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. We look to God’s Word (the Bible) as our blueprint for living. We are a congregation of God’s people who worship together, serve together, and believe that God wants people to have life at its fullest potential. Jesus said, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”

And God continues to expand our dreams. We are committed to continue taking steps of faith to carry the message of Jesus Christ throughout Lincoln and into our world.

Why We Exist

~ We believe God placed us at 1st & Superior to lead people into a growing relationship with Christ.
~ We believe a great commitment to the Great Commission and the Great Commandment will grow a great church.

The Great Commandment: “Jesus said, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart … soul … and mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments.’” Matthew 22:37-40

The Great Commission: “Jesus said, ‘Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you.’” Matthew 28:19,20
